Promising Belfast super-middleweight Padraig McCrory is eager to please his fanatical supporters at the Titanic Exhibition Centre on Friday.
‘The Hammer’ (5-0-KO2) put in an excellent display at the same venue back in October; dropping Commonwealth medallist Sean McGlinchey on the way to a convincing victory. As he prepares to face Hungary’s Gabor Detre – another fighter with a winning record – McCrory is confident of teeing up title tilts in 2019. McCrory said: “I’m looking forward to getting back to the venue. I think it’s great. It gives all the fans a great chance to get really close to the fights and the whole thing is just really well set up. “I boxed an unbeaten guy in my last fight – Sean McGlinchey, who won a Commonwealth medal in his amateur days. Beating him shows what I can do and I’m only going to get better. “We’re working on lots of different things in the gym. I like to keep the basics as sharp as possible but we’re also working on combinations and defence. I’m looking forward to putting it all into play on Friday. “Next year should be a massive year for me. It’s quite simple – I want to win titles. I want to win Irish titles, then British and then on to European level. I’m quite capable of doing it. “People are starting to notice that I have the best fans about. They come time and time again and they always give me that little extra push when I need it.” Joining McCrory vs. Detre on a busy Belfast card is Conrad Cummings vs. Ferenc Berki for the WBO European title, Gary Cully vs. Mohammed Kambuluta, Sean McComb vs. Zoltan Szabo and much more.
