Southern Area middleweight champion Tey Lynn-Jones has put his British title dream on hold in order to challenge WBC world youth champion Ramil Gadzhyiev in Azerbaijan on May 5.

At 23, Lynn-Jones (10-1-KO2) is one the UK’s most promising fighters at 160lbs but is determined to seize world honours when he travels into the unknown to face talented Ukrainian Gadzhyiev.
Lynn-Jones said: “After I stopped Matty Legg to win the Southern Area belt in March, we sat down and made some offers to people for a first defence but nobody wanted it. Then this chance came up.
“It’s such a great opportunity to fight for a WBC world belt and getting flown abroad to fight. I love going to people’s back yards. Having everyone in the place against me makes me want it more.
“There’s always the chance of a dodgy decision anywhere you go so perhaps I’ll have to chase the knockout for the win. At the very least, I’m going to try and make it impossible for them not to give it to me.
“People have told me that he’s a good mover and tough to pin down. He’s obviously talented – he won the youth Olympics and the world juniors so he’s operated at a very high level as an amateur.
“I know I’ve got my work cut out if I’m going to rip that crown off him but I’m inspired by the whole situation and I’d like to thank my team and my sponsors for making it happen.”
Lynn-Jones’ sole defeat as a professional came at the hands of Nicky Jenman in March 2017 and while he’s fully focused on his upcoming away bout, ‘Teysty’ remains keen to avenge that disappointment on his way to more domestic titles.
Lynn-Jones added: “I’ve always said I wanted to redeem myself in a rematch with Jenman. I’ve asked for it and he keeps pricing himself out. Hopefully, my decision to go this route will draw him out.
“I know I’m good enough to win a British title in the future. It’s the thing I want most. Anything after that would be a bonus.
“When I get back – hopefully with a WBC world youth title around my waist – I’ll be looking to carry on the traditional route of defending the Southern Area, then winning the English, then the British.”
