10 Jun FURY SWEEPS ASIDE SEFERI – RESULTS & REACTION ROUND-UP FROM MANCHESTER
Tyson Fury eased to a four-round stoppage of Sefer Seferi as he ended a two-and-a-half-year hiatus out of the ring with victory at a packed Manchester Arena.
The lineal world heavyweight king was always toying with his Albanian visitor, who failed to emerge for the fifth round having sustained some heavy blows towards the end of the fourth.
In addition to the main event, MTK Global sent out six other fighters on a glitzy undercard with JJ Metcalf, Jack Massey, Ian Tims, Sam Maxwell, Sean Turner, Troy Williamson and Alex Dickinson all in action.
Here’s what you need to know…
TYSON FURY bt Sefer Seferi RTD4
Fury: “It felt fantastic. I want to thank the fans for coming out and showing support. It meant miracles to me. Seferi is tough and was on the back foot from the start.
“I wanted to stand and have a fight with him and it wasn’t my fault they pulled him out. Congratulations to him – God bless him.
“It was like having my debut. I needed some rounds. I wasn’t in a rush and was having fun. I’ll keep busy and the calibre of opponents will keep rising. I’ll be better next time, getting more rounds in against a better opponent.”
JJ METCALF bt Aitor Nieto TKO12
WBC International super-welterweight title
JACK MASSEY bt IAN TIMS KO2
Massey: “Thank you all so much for all your amazing support. Without my sponsors and all my fans, it wouldn’t be possible.
“I’m gutted for all you guys who missed the show. It’s straight on to the next one. Let’s go and get some straps.”
Nathan Gorman bt SEAN TURNER TKO3
SAM MAXWELL bt Kane Baker PTS6
Maxwell: “Got the win last night and it’s six rounds in the bank. It felt great. Thanks for everyone travelling down and waiting for me to box.
“Fingers crossed I get some news on another fight soon because I’m looking to keep this momentum going. Massive thanks to Frank Warren and MTK Global for getting me on these shows.”
TROY WILLIAMSON drew with Jack Flatley PTS8
Williamson: “Respect to Jack Flatley. You’re a warrior mate. Not many would have jumped up and showed heart like you did. Let’s do it again next summer.
“All you ever want I a fair shot. Jack is a tough kid. I hit him with some serious shots and put him over twice. He dug in deep and we went hammer and tongs for eight rounds.
“I won the fight and everyone in there knows it. Some rounds were his, some were mine but there was only one winner.”
ALEX DICKINSON beat David Howe KO4
