Dagenham-based light-middleweight hoping to move quickly ahead of pro debut
MTK Global are delighted to announce the signing of Essex light-middleweight Mitchell Frearson.
The 26-year-old will training at Dagenham Legends Gym under Jamie Williams and Frearson is hoping to move quickly in the paid ranks with an April debut on the horizon.
“When I first started boxing, I never thought I’d end up signing for such an established company. I was originally just doing it for a bit of fun, but it’s gradually progressed to here,” said Frearson.
“Realistically, I think April will be a good date for me to get out. I’m in this for a good time not a long time! I want to progress as quickly as I can.
“I see a lot of people I know around my weight that have been doing well but I think I can beat them, so I want to get a couple of four-rounders and then get straight into the mix domestically and around my area in London.”
A former kick-boxer, the qualified bricklayer had an unusual start in boxing before taking up the sport more seriously, leading to a stop-start amateur career, but he hopes his pro move with MTK will lead to a more stable fight plan.
“I was doing my brick-laying course and someone brought some gloves into the college,” he explained. “We used to spar in the car-park! After that, one of the lads said I should come along to a club, so that’s how I got into it.
“I was a kick-boxer as a kid and then when I was about 17 I started boxing at Hornchuch and Elm Park. I’ve trained in few clubs – Hornchurch, Dagenham and West Ham – because I’ve worked as a bricklayer and sometimes I’ve just had to train where I can after work.
“As I was going up through the levels there was a bit more pressure to balance it with work, so I’m hoping this move helps me dedicate a bit more time to the sport.
“I’m under no illusions. I had a good but not a glittering amateur career, but I’m looking forward to progressing quickly and making my mark on MTK’s shows.”
